They love to dance. Check. They love Apple products. Check. The love the TV show FRIENDS. Check. They love weddings. Check!

One of the cool things about meeting couples in this business is finding out how much you have in common with them. And with Carissa & Charlie, I share a lot. As fellow vendors in the wedding industry (Carissa is a planner and Charlie is a graphic designer), they know what it takes to pull of a successful event. Although I missed part of the reception to edit their SDE, I could hear all the laughter and feel the thumping music all the way from the conference room above the main hall. Someone, indeed, knows how to throw a party.

Same Day Edit, a LIFETIME memory.

Those are the words Trish, the new Mrs. Day, posted under her wedding video on facebook. I might have to trademark the slogan. But in those few words she summed up our goal when putting together the SDE in the time in between the ceremony and the reception: to create a moment that will be remembered forever. At least we cross our fingers and hope we do. But the SDE can also serve another purpose.

Trish and Josh, the best of friends since their early school days, were given approval by their church to write their own personal vows. But only those privileged to be up on the altar with them were able to actually hear them.

So immediately I wanted to listen to the vows as I began the edit after leaving the church. What I heard was beautiful and it needed to be heard by their guests. It easily became the framework for their video.

Putting together a Same Day Edit is not for the faint of heart, but with such heartfelt and honest words spoken between a groom and his bride, it makes it so much easier.

To the new Mr. & Mrs. Day. thank you for having us be a part of your most special of days.

Gigi + Ryan | Sweet Success | a Vibiana Wedding in Downtown L.A.

Gigi and Ryan are no strangers to gathering a group of people to a location that is both urban & dramatic and having them leave with a smile. It has been the secret to their success.

When Gigi contacted me last year I noticed something at the bottom of her e-mail: Buttermilk. Was it the Buttermilk of Los Angeles food truck fame? When I called her back, I found out that, yes, indeed it was! Over the last few years, Gigi & Ryan have delighted their fans (including myself) to their renowned Red Velvet pancake bites, Hawaiian bread cinnamon sticks and powered cake donuts. YUM!!!

So it was with great anticipation to return the favor and serve Gigi & Ryan and their guests a sweet Same Day Edit on their wedding day.

Amy + Shahab | a Pelican Hill Resort Wedding in Newport Coast

Fate. Destiny. Serendipity.

Is it real? Possibly. But when a friend of Shahab’s was trying to convince him to go to leave the house and go out to a club, he told him “Who knows… you might meet your future wife tonight.” And sure enough, that’s when he saw Amy from across the room. True story!

Flash forward to a gorgeous Persian ceremony and a fun-filled reception that went into the late night and lasted through early morning at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Coast.

Was it predestined… written in the stars? Call it anything you want but it was one thing for sure… Beautiful.

Jennie + Dustin | Perfect & Priceless | a South Coast Wedding

There was laughing. Then crying. Then more laughing. And more crying. Then a lot more laughing, crying… accompanied by a roar of cheers and applause.

That sums up the wedding day of Jennie and Dustin. And to have a glimpse of all the day’s emotions captured and relived during the Same Day Edit video is what brings joy to my heart. To have the wedding guests watch the father of the bride tear up as he sees his little girl get into her wedding dress. What a great moment. Perfect and priceless.

Thank you Jennie & Dustin for reminding me why I love capturing weddings on video.

Mary + Brendan | Today for Tomorrow | a Huntington Beach Hyatt Resort Wedding

Mary & Brendan have two adorable sons, ages 2 and 4, who remind me of my own son. This entry is for them.

Dear Max & Jacob,

You probably don’t remember me but I was at your mommy and daddy’s wedding. And you probably won’t even remember the wedding day by the time you’re old enough to read and understand this. But here’s the great thing about my job. I was able to capture all the fun and important moments from that day with my camera. And one day you’ll show this to your kids. It was an incredible celebration by the beach. There was lots of dancing, a photobooth that made really cool animated flip books… and to end the night, your parents treated us to the best tasting burgers in the world, IN-N-OUT! I hope that you will cherish this film for years to come. Tell your mommy and daddy thank you again for letting me be a part of it.

Lucy + Mike | Up Close & Personal | a Bel Air Bay Club Wedding in Pacific Palisades

A tip for you future brides and grooms: Write your own vows. It will make your ceremony more personal, everyone will cry (including the vendors) and, let’s be honest… makes for great video.

When I met with Lucy & Mike, I asked them if they were going to use their own vows. They said they hadn’t decided yet because they didn’t know if they’d be able to get through them. Well they made the right decision as you will see in their highlight video shot at the Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica (my hometown) and at the beautiful ocean views of the Bel Air Bay Club in Pacific palisades.

Tera + Alex | You Make Me Smile | a Vibiana Wedding in Downtown L.A.

Who can keep a smile on his face while eating a mouthful of wasabi, downing a glass of syrup, and doing push-ups with each of his groomsmen on his back? Alex can. And that’s just some of the things he had to do to see his beautiful bride Tera. But that smile lasted the whole day. And why wouldn’t it? It was a perfect day. From the heartfelt tea ceremonies at the Kyoto Grand to the elegant ceremony & reception at the Vibiana in Downtown Los Angeles. And as the day turned to night, the hall was transformed and the Vibiana was beautifully lit in hues of blue & purple with ceiling filled with stars like the night sky. The evening’s festivities included a very cool Chinese dragon dance and a Hawaiian wedding hula by the bride. It was an incredible and flawless production. And the icing on the cake? Street style tacos served in the courtyard for everyone in the final hours of the evening. Tera and Alex, you know how to put a smile on THIS face.
